Why Autism?
Early childhood is when symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a developmental condition, first
appear.
There are many complex illnesses that impact children differently and make up the spectrum of autism, which is not a single disorder. Children with ASD have difficulty interacting and communicating with others. ASD’s prevalence rate is rising, yet there is no known cause for it.
As it stands currently, the prevalence of ASD in Ghana per every 10,000 children is 82 according to world population review.com and this is why WIAfrica firmly believes that children with ASD should not be left out of activities or denied love and care just because they have differing social skills and intellectual abilities.
This is the core of our dedication to the Autism spectrum and teaching society not to shun such people but accept them and give them the given love & care they need
Why Girls & Women?
Womanhood and femininity are a central part of the African society which is eventually seen in its culture.
This is often reflected in the adages on womanhood and femininity and the country and continent being
referred to as a mother which shows the importance and value of the female gender.
According to the African Union Development Agency (AUDA), 76% of inactive out of school youth are female which hinders their future ambitions gives rise to societal issues such as teenage pregnancy etc., this also comes in line with UNICEF assertation that child marriage would drop by 64% if women had access to secondary education.
Women also bear the brunt of issues within society some of them being domestic violence based, discrimination based etc which hampers their confidence, livelihood and sense of self which WIAfrica aims to change through Female-led initiatives with the intention of improving the lives of women in the various societies in Ghana and beyond.
