Knowledge Is Power (K.I.P)
This campaign ensures that lesser privileged schools are supplied with basic reading materials to ensure that the girl child has no hinderance to her education.
Why Reading & Writing?
Ghana as a nation has made commendable effort to ensure that education is available to all within this country. However, there are challenges that have hindered the educational journeys of children within this country.
Michael Stark, a trustee and founder of EDUCATORS INTERNATIONAL (EI), a UK charity education-based organization made the following observation on his trip in Ghana; “One of the most fascinating things that distinguishes England from Ghana is that; In
England, almost every child learns how to read if they go to school, but unfortunately here in Ghana, that is not the case. But people have the idea that, the gap is relatively small; a little bit like the gap between income or state of health or mortality.
But actually, it is much larger than that…” The lack of reading & writing materials necessary for education within the country has resulted in the current ailing state of education particularly in the public sector. This is portrayed in the assertation by Professor Steven Adjei a former Rector of GIMPA who states that Two thirds of JHS graduates are unable to adequately read and write, which has contributed to a decline in academic performance of JHS graduands within the country.
Reading and writing are important to every student as it is a cornerstone in the educational journey’s of everyone which is which every child should be able to access the necessary reading & writing materials for their future.
